Roofing in Tice, FL

Tice is the older east side of Fort Myers along Palm Beach Boulevard, between the city line and Interstate 75, with the Caloosahatchee on one side and the railroad and Ortiz Avenue on the other. The housing is some of the oldest working-class stock in the county: 1950s through 1970s block and frame homes on small lots, many with the original low-slope or shingle roofs replaced two or three times, and a scattering of manufactured homes. Tile is rare.

Ian's wind took shingle across Tice in September 2022, and the neighborhoods closest to the river saw water. The older frame homes here have decking that has been wet before, and a roof that was patched after Irma in 2017 and again after Ian is often past the point where another patch makes sense.

Fort Myers Roofers connects Tice homeowners with an independent local roofing contractor.

Tice roofing, by the kind of house

A 1960s home with a shingle roof that leaks at the same spot every wet season is a roof repair with an attic check, because the decking may be the real problem. A roof at year twenty with an insurer letter is a roof inspection first. A roof that is finished is a roof replacement through the county, and Florida's 25 percent rule applies in full to roofs permitted before 2009, which covers most of Tice.

Where to call in Tice

Tice is unincorporated, so permits go through Lee County. Its landmark is the county's Manatee Park on Palm Beach Boulevard, across from the power plant whose warm-water outflow draws manatees every winter from November through March.
